Connect with Each Other
Welcome to week 12 of small groups! Take some time to catch up from last week. Take some time to catch up with each other. Be sure and introduce anyone new to the group.
When you think about “God’s will,” what’s the first word or feeling that comes to mind—peace, pressure, confusion, clarity, something else?
Let’s Discuss the Message
Three Ways We Can Miss God’s Will
This week Pastor Tyler continued our series, Just Tell Me, where we are learning how to know God’s will for our lives.
1. OVER-SPIRITUALIZE GOD’S WILL.
MATTHEW 12:38-39a NIV
38 Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to [Jesus], “Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.” 39a He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign!”
JAMES 1:5
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.
2. OVERANALYZE EVERYTHING.
PROVERBS 3:5-6 NIV
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.
3. ASSUME “DIFFICULT” MEANS WRONG.
1 PETER 3:17 NIV
For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
PSALM 37:4 NIV
Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Discuss the following:
Share with your group what stands out to you.
Do you have any questions lingering from this message?
Continue Sharing
The word yada means knowing God deeply and relationally—how is that different from just trying to “figure everything out”?
James 1:5 says God gives wisdom generously—what keeps us from actually asking (or trusting His answer)?
Psalm 37:4 talks about delighting in the Lord shaping our desires—how have you seen your desires change as you’ve grown in faith?
