Connect with Each Other
Welcome to the second week of Small Groups for our Spring semester at Orchard! Take some time to catch up from last week and be sure to introduce anyone new to your group. Here is a question you could ask to get to know each other better:
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Take time for everyone in the group to answer this question.
Let’s Discuss the Message
Untie It
WHEN WE UNTIE WHAT’S BOUND, BLESSINGS WILL BE FOUND.
This week, Pastor Doug taught from the passage in the Gospel of Mark where the story of the donkey that the disciples borrowed for Jesus is told.
MARK 11:1-7
1 As Jesus and His disciples approached Jerusalem, they came to the towns of Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent two of them on ahead. 2 “Go into that village over there,” He told them. “As soon as you enter it, you will see a young donkey tied there that no one has ever ridden. UNTIE IT and bring it here. 3 If anyone asks, ‘What are you doing?’ just say, ‘The Lord needs it and will RETURN it soon.’” 4 The two disciples left and found the colt standing in the street, tied outside the front door. 5 As they were UNTYING IT, some bystanders demanded, “What are you doing, untying that colt?” 6 They said what Jesus had told them to say, and they were permitted to take it. 7 Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their garments over it, and He sat on it.
Take a few minutes to either read or summarize this passage together as a group.
What stands out to you from this story?
Do you have any questions about this part of the Bible?
The key points from the message were:
1. UNTIE IT
2. THE LORD NEEDS IT
3. THE LORD WILL RETURN IT
Another verse that was shared was from the Gospel of Luke.
LUKE 6:38 “GIVE, and you will RECEIVE. Your gift will RETURN to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”
Start Sharing
Share about a time when you experienced God do more than you could have imagined with a gift that was given to Him either by you or someone you know like a friend or family member.
How does the idea of giving to get back, or untying what is bound so blessings can be found, relate to the IMAGINE INITIATIVE?
What impact do you think could be made if we and others did that collectively as a church through the IMAGINE INITIATIVE?
Take Some Time to Pray Together
Pray for each other. Write down prayer requests so they can be shared with the group for the week.
Pray that no one in your group will miss out experiencing what the Lord can do when we untie and release things back to Him so that we can not only get it back, but have even more.
Pray that God uses the IMAGINE INITIATIVE to accomplish His will, for His Glory, and for the good of others
One of our Values at Orchard is:
“We are worship participants, not spectators and church contributors, not consumers.”
